About Creative Scene
Imagine the Creative Scene across North Kirklees in ten years’ time… where the arts bubble up from the very seams of the place and events, gigs, festivals, theatre, music… all part of its currency and its distinctiveness… people take part and make things happen –making art a part of everyday life.
We are one of Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places projects
Our ambition is to:
+ increase the number of people from our area taking part in and inspired by the arts
+ enable people to speak up for what they value about the arts and to influence what happens in the area
+ explore new ways of presenting the arts in places where people live, work and play
+ test out new ways of marketing and promoting the arts

About Arts Council England's Creative People and Places programme
The Creative People and Places fund focuses on parts of the country where involvement in the arts is significantly below the national average. The aim is to increase the likelihood that people will participate. The first phase of Creative People and Places invested £37 Million in 21 ‘places’ across the country and ran from 2012–15. For the period 2016–19 Arts Council England is investing a further £20 Million into the programme, predominantly into the existing places.
Data from the 2009/10 Active People Survey demonstrates that some communities are engaging very little with the arts. This may be through lack of opportunities to attend and participate, or because of barriers like socio-economic factors, physical accessibility, or a limited offer of activities. Arts Council England believe that everyone has the right to experience and be inspired by the art, so we want to transform the opportunities open to people in these places.
Creative People and Places aims to support the public in shaping local arts provision, and making decisions about the arts and cultural offer in this local place. The projects supported develop long-term collaborations between local communities and arts organisations, museums, libraries and other partners (such as local authorities and private sector companies). Places are empowered to experiment with new and different approaches to develop inspiring and sustainable arts programmes that will engage audiences.
